11 - 18 - 2011 Lewistown Borough settles up with MCRP on withdrawal deal
(LS) In a decision that the Lewistown Borough Council Vice President Frank Berrier says is in the best interest of the taxpayers & the borough, a $120,000 settlement was reached with the Mifflin Co. Regional Police Department. The deal comes after the borough pulled out of an agreement for police coverage & started its own department at the start of this year. About 3/4 of the settlement will be paid by Dec. 15, the rest by the end of next April. The money was owed for sick time, vacation, & leave time for the officers. Berrier said the borough should have enough in the general fund to cover what is owed by this year & balance owed for next year would be budgeted.
