09 - 20 - 2011 Benninghoff’s bill amends right-to-know law, protecting jurors
Rep. Kerry Benninghoff announced he has introduced legislation in the state House that would amend the Commonwealthâs Right-to-Know Law to protect jurors. Benninghoff said that âWe donât want the stateâs Right-to-Know Law to make it possible for defendants to engage in juror intimidationâ. Under the bill, agencies that maintain records regarding jurors would not be permitted to release the names or addresses of jurors to the public if requested to do so under PAâs Right-to-Know Law. An individual juror would not be prohibited from voluntarily releasing his or her own information. There currently is no exemption in state law, regulations or judicial rules protecting a jurorâs name & address from being disclosed to the public.
