05 - 04 - 2011 Mifflinburg school board adopts budget for next year
(DI) The Mifflinburg school board approved a proposed budget of about $26 million for the 2011-12 school year—& managed to reduce its expected shortfall to just shy of $1 million—at its meeting last night. Whether teacher salary freezes or furloughs will make up the rest of the deficit remains to be seen, however, as the teachers union & school district are in negotiations. Among the larger cuts that helped shrink a $1.7 million deficit are retiring teachers who won’t be replaced, about $100,000 being cut from the equipment budget & cuts in travel & supplies.
