04 - 15 - 2011 Harris heads effort at collecting delinquent taxes
Rep. Adam Harris’s House Bill passed the House with unanimous support this week allowing the Commonwealth to intercept PA Lottery winnings from individuals who are delinquent in state taxes. Harris said in a press release that, “It is only right that a lottery winner who is behind in his or her state taxes should rectify this tax delinquency before collecting any jackpot.” The Bill would require the Department of Revenue to confirm the tax status of any individual who wins a single prize of more than $2,500 from the PA Lottery. If the taxpayer is found delinquent, the amount would be deducted from lottery winnings & paid to the Commonwealth. The legislation also provides for priority payment of lottery winnings to delinquent child support.
