03 - 25 - 2011 Local lawmakers look for ways to ease budget blow
(LS) Some in Gov. Tom Corbett's own political party have reservations on his proposed budget cuts which will strike a hefty blow to local school districts. Both Adam Harris & Mike Fleck expressed some concern over the 2011-12 budget that has little "wiggle room". Harris said he would favor selling state stores & taxing natural gas drillers to raise revenue while Fleck feels a compromise is needed. Rep. Kerry Benninghoff said education had received "tremendous" windfalls from the Federal government & are now "crying foul". He added that Gov. Corbet entered office with the deficit & compared it to handing a guy "a heavy backpack & telling him to sprint".
