10 - 06 - 2010 Trash talk in Centre Hall over garbage collection
(CDT) A debate over trash collection in Centre Hall is echoing national arguments about the size & role of government. Centre Hall is considering starting its own trash collection service & charging residents about $20 a month to haul away their garbage & recyclables. But the idea is gathering some opposition from residents who say they don’t like that they won’t have a choice of services. What council members and officials were thinking was the change would allow them to avoid raising real estate taxes—which the borough hasn’t done in more than 40 years. Currently, residents are responsible for removing their own trash.
