10 - 01 - 2010 Sen. Corman thinks gas extraction tax may be unconstitutional
(CDT) State Sen. Jake Corman said he thinks the natural gas extraction tax bill the state House passed Wednesday violates the Constitution & said it could hinder chances of getting a severance tax on gas drilling approved by the end of the year. Corman chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee & said he doesnât want to see the state count on getting money from a tax that could end up being thrown out, as happened with Act 44. Under Act 44, the state planned to pay for road projects with new tolls on the turnpike & I-80, but the federal government rejected the proposal.
