05 - 18 - 2010 School district confronted by residents over budget deficit
(LS) Last night the Mifflin Co. School Board met at the LAHS Auditorium instead of their usual location in the board room of the districtâs Administration Building. The move was to accommodate the anticipated crowd expected to voice concerns over the districtâs red ink. A large turnout did grill the board on what was being done to bring the budget under control & how it would affect studentsâ education. The board reported on how cuts were being made to trim expenses & bring in new revenue through a milage increase. The district must have a budget ready to lie in state for 30 days by Thursday, according to state law. Then another 30 days are allowed to make any adjustments to the proposed budget.
