05 - 07 - 2010 J.-Co. Schools looks at lower building use, higher milage
(LS) Facing an increase of a 1.5 mil jump in school taxes, the Juniata Co. School District is considering only operating up to 5 buildings instead of its current 11. This in the face of rising pension costs & the consideration of building projects. The district received word from local lawmakers that with Gov. Rendellâs proposed budget, they should not expect to get much from the state. While most of the considerations are tentative, the district still is uncertain about healthcare & the state budget, which is currently at a $1 billion deficit. For now, the district is expecting health care costs to jump 8%.
