10 - 01 - 2013 Non-jury trial finds 3 Centre Co. men guilty of assault charges
Three Centre County men were found guilty Monday in the beating of a man in front of his family after the Central PA 4th Fest in 2012. Christopher Stout and Charles Stout, brothers, and Joshua Carovinci were found guilty in a non-jury trial in front of Judge Thomas King Kistler. The Stouts were found guilty of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment. Carovinci was found guilty of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief and harassment. The incident stems from a flare-up after the fireworks at the festival in State College in which the victim and his family were trying to leave a parking lot near Beaver Stadium on the Penn State campus when the three men walked in front of the victimâs truck. Charles Stout stopped in front of the truck, then leaned on it. The victim rolled down his window to ask Charles Stout to move. The three men then began taunting the family, which included the victimâs 12-year-old daughter, then Carovinci began kicking the truck, causing more than $1,000 in damages. The victim got out of the truck to get the menâs names and was attacked. He was punched and kicked repeatedly by the three men until another Stout family member broke up the attack. The victim suffered a broken wrist, bruises and abrasions. All three men will be sentenced Nov. 26.
