02 - 12 - 2013 Malfuntioning Fire Alarm causes MCHS evacuation Monday
LEWISTOWN - Mifflin County High School evacuated students and personnel around 10 am Monday, Mifflin County Regional Police Department's Rob Haines, the school resource officer, reports. Haines said the alarm system activated as a fire alarm due to a malfunctioning sensor in the air duct, and students returned to class within 30 minutes of the building being cleared by maintenance staff and the fire department. MCHS has a standard evacuation fire drill every month but this was the first time the school was involved in an unplanned evacuation. Haines said it was a ‘textbook’ evacuation and everything went well.
