01 - 08 - 2013 Derry Supervisors vote to remove trees from Derry Park
YEAGERTOWN - The Derry Township Board of Supervisors approved at its regular meeting Monday the removal of numerous trees at Derry Township Community Park. Board President John McCullough said the ash trees in the park had been infested by emerald ash borers several years ago and the majority of the trees need to be removed. There have been some problems with tree limbs breaking off and whole trees getting blown down during storms. McCullough said more than 100 trees have already been taken down with many more slated for removal and the board hopes to sell the lumber from the trees to be able to start the process of replanting the park. The Derry Township Board of Supervisors regularly meets at 5:30 pm. on the first and third Mondays of each month at its building in Yeagertown. The next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 21.
