05 - 25 - 2012 Accused police shooter to represent himself at trial
(LS) Yesterday at his preliminary hearing, Leroy Kanagy was led in by police officers where he told the court he intends to represent himself at his trial. He is accused of shooting police officers who were attempting to serve a warrant, which led to an altercation back in Feb. Kanagy, a man who has had a string of mental illness incidents, appeared before District Judge Jack Miller with his court appointed backup counsel, Michael Gingerich. Following the testimony of law enforcement, Kanagy was bound over for trial. He is current incarcerated on $250,000 bail.
