05 - 23 - 2012 Penns Valley School District faces tax increase
(CDT) A proposed tax increase before the Penns Valley Area school board would cost the median homeowner about $60 a year. District officials, faced with another year of budget shortfalls, are proposing a 3.65% tax increase. Superintendent Brian Griffith said losses in state funding & projected increases to the districtâs contribution to the state teachersâ retirement fund made the tax increase almost impossible to avoid. Griffith said the districtâs budget is less than it was in 2008-09, which is also the last year the school board didnât raise taxes.
